Container Freight rates rise again

As reported by the online magazine TrasportoEuropa, citing the findings of the World Container Index, in the last week of October, average spot rates for container transport have changed sign and, after three months of almost uninterrupted decline, have returned to growth.
The most dynamic route is the one between Shanghai and Genoa, which in one week saw the average freight rate increase 11 per cent, to USD 3,648 per feu, followed by the route between Shanghai and Rotterdam, which grew by +8% to US$3,396.
Container transport costs in the Atlantic were more stable: $2,664 per feu is needed between Rotterdam and New York and $760 in the reverse direction, virtually unchanged from the previous period. They are rose slightly (+1%), however, average freight rates between Shanghai and Los Angeles, in both directions: it is now $5,241 per feu between China and the US United States and $718 in the reverse direction. The figures show only a minus sign, around one per cent, between Rotterdam and Shanghai, which stands at 543 dollars per feu.
