Lower container freight rates across the Atlantic
As reported by the online magazine Transport Europe, container freight rates between Northern Europe and the east coast of the United States showed substantial resilience and even increased in some cases during 2022, while those between Asia and Europe steadily declined. The situation changed this year, when transatlantic freight rates also started to show a consistent fall. In the first days of 2023, spot and long-term freight rates fell by about ten per cent, bringing spot rates below $6,500 per feu (forty-foot equivalent unit) and long-term rates below $6,000 per feu.
