Two companies out of three do not find the figures they are looking for

Confindustria confirms in a recent survey what companies in the rubber-plastics sector already know, often because they have experienced it themselves: two out of three companies are unable to find the required
professional figures, especially when it comes to technical profiles, where the mismatch reaches 69.2%, or manual tasks (58.9%). Relatively easier is it to find transversal skills on the market, where difficulties are reported by only 16.5% of companies, or managerial skills, indicated by 8.3%.
The difficulties for companies,’ reads the study “Skills and Work: the Confindustria Survey and the Challenges Facing Businesses”, ’are concentrated above all in key sectors such as digital transition, where two out of three companies report problems in finding suitable skills. Internationalisation is also a critical area for about one third of companies, while the green transition is indicated by 15.1% of companies as an area in which it is difficult to find specialised figures. For Lucia Aleotti, Vice-President of Confindustria with responsibility for the Research Centre, this is a sign of a strong mismatch between required and offered skills, which affects not only companies, but the entire country, compromising its economic development. ‘Worsening the picture,’ Aleotti points out, ’are the demographic decline and the ageing population, which amplify the shortage of workers, making it necessary to increase labour market participation and attract skilled immigrants.
