Over 4 million robots at work in factories
According to data contained in the World Robotics report released today by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), there were 4,281,585 robots at work in factories around the world last year, an increase of +10% over 2022.
For the third consecutive year, year-on-year installations exceeded half a million.
‘The number of installations in 2023, at 541,302 units, is the second highest in history. It is only two percentage points away from the historical record of 552,946 units installed in 2022,’ notes Marina Bill, President of the International Federation of Robotics.
The geographical distribution follows the map of new industrialisation: 70% of the robots installed in the last year took the route to Asia, 17% were put into service in Europe and 10% in the Americas.
China remains the largest market, with 276,288 industrial robots installed in 2023, or 51% of the total. It is followed at a distance by Japan with 46,106 units, the United States with 37,587
(-5%) and the Republic of Korea with 31,444 robots installed last year.
