Plastics and rubber: record year for Italian manufacturers
The plastics and rubber machinery sector in Italy recorded a record year in 2023, with a significant increase in turnover of 9.4% over the previous year. According to data presented by the MECS-Amaplast Study Centre in the fourth edition of the National Statistics Survey, the industry generated a turnover of 4.76 billion euros, mainly supported by exports. Among the process technologies, extrusion accounted for one fifth of total production, followed by moulds/ dies (10%) and injection moulding machines (9%). The packaging sector is the largest customer, accounting for 44% of the total (27% food and 17% non-food), followed by automotive (14%) and construction (13%). The construction segment saw the largest increase in turnover (+28%), followed by packaging (+20%). In contrast, automotive and medical recorded a drop of about three points.
